The problem

EEG was built for one type of hair.

Standard cup and disc electrodes cannot reach the scalp through thick, curly or afro-textured hair. Participants are excluded, data is lost, and whole populations go unstudied. In one review, just five of eighty-one EEG papers included any Black participants, and none confirmed the data quality.
